BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has reiterated that there can be no compromise on elections, as they must take place regardless of circumstances. He emphasized that without a properly structured electoral system, no national problem can be effectively resolved. Speaking at a workshop titled "31-Point Structural Reform" in Chuadanga’s Sahid Garden on Thursday, he underscored BNP’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a neutral and fair election process.

Tarique Rahman stated that BNP has always aspired for free and fair elections. He stressed that if a functional electoral system is not developed, the country will continue to face unresolved crises. Reforms alone are not enough unless the process is backed by accountability to the people.

He pointed out that BNP had anticipated the fall of autocracy, even if the exact timing was uncertain. In line with this belief, BNP presented its 31-point agenda to the people, outlining steps to repair the damage caused by authoritarian rule. According to Rahman, the government's reform commission has essentially submitted a report that aligns with BNP’s proposed 31 points, though minor modifications were made for official representation.

Rahman further elaborated on the importance of structural changes, highlighting issues such as a bicameral parliament, term limits for the prime minister, and ensuring accountability. However, he noted that the real concerns of the people revolve around inflation, education, healthcare, and employment. Citizens want concrete solutions to these issues, rather than just political rhetoric.

He asserted that BNP’s 31-point agenda stands as a pledge to support the people, and any attempt to undermine it will be met with strong resistance. He called for protests and resistance against any injustice that seeks to divert the party from its objectives.

The day-long workshop was attended by BNP leaders and activists from Chuadanga and Meherpur districts. The session was chaired by Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, President of Chuadanga District BNP. The chief speaker at the event was Dr. Mahdi Amin, Advisor to the acting chairman of BNP.

Other notable speakers included BNP’s Central Relief and Rehabilitation Secretary Advocate Nowa Halima Arli, Local Government Affairs Secretary Shammi Akter, and former President of Chhatra Dal, Kazi Rawnakul Islam Shravan, who is also a member of the BNP Central Executive Committee.

The event also featured addresses by Meherpur District BNP Convener Javed Masud Milton and Member Secretary Advocate Kamrul Hasan, alongside Chuadanga District BNP General Secretary Sharifuzzaman Sharif and other local leaders.
