Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus held a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump during a high-profile reception in New York. The event, hosted by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, was organized on September 23 at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel to honor visiting world leaders who gathered for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

A photograph released by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing captured the moment, featuring President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Dr. Yunus, and his daughter Dina Yunus together. The image drew wide attention, highlighting Bangladesh’s presence on the global stage during one of the world’s most significant diplomatic gatherings.

The dinner reception brought together heads of state, senior officials, and distinguished guests from across the globe. In his exchange with the U.S. President, Dr. Yunus extended an invitation to President Trump to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time. The meeting was seen as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties and showcase Bangladesh’s role in international cooperation.

The Press Wing noted that Dr. Yunus expressed Bangladesh’s interest in deepening its engagement with the United States in areas of mutual importance, including trade, development, and global peace initiatives. Although the meeting was brief, it carried symbolic weight, underscoring Bangladesh’s diplomatic outreach during the UN summit.

Dr. Yunus, globally known as a Nobel Laureate and pioneer of microfinance, has long been recognized for his contributions to poverty alleviation and social business. His position as Chief Adviser has brought renewed international attention to Bangladesh’s governance and diplomacy. His presence at the reception highlighted the country’s commitment to global dialogue and collaboration.

The gathering at the Lotte New York Palace reflected the United States’ tradition of hosting a reception for world leaders attending the UN General Assembly each year. The inclusion of Dr. Yunus and his daughter in the photo session with President Trump and First Lady Melania underscored the cordial nature of the encounter.

Political analysts have suggested that even short, symbolic meetings such as this can serve to build goodwill and open the door for future cooperation. By inviting President Trump to Bangladesh, Dr. Yunus signaled Dhaka’s willingness to welcome closer engagement with Washington, particularly at a time when global partnerships are increasingly vital.

While no immediate policy announcements followed the event, the meeting contributed to Bangladesh’s diplomatic visibility at the UNGA. It also reinforced Dr. Yunus’ image as both a respected international figure and a key representative of Bangladesh on the world stage.

The Press Wing’s statement emphasized that the meeting and photo opportunity represented not only a moment of diplomatic courtesy but also a broader effort to project Bangladesh’s leadership in international affairs.

As the UN General Assembly continues, Bangladesh’s participation under Dr. Yunus’ leadership is expected to focus on sustainable development, climate change, and advancing the interests of developing nations. The brief but notable interaction with President Trump highlighted the importance of such multilateral platforms for fostering dialogue and strengthening ties across nations.
