The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 season is set to begin on December 30, igniting excitement among cricket fans across the country. However, the celebrations have already started, with the official inauguration held today, December 23, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The event featured a grand music fest, attended by cricket enthusiasts and music lovers alike, marking the beginning of a reimagined and modernized league.

Interim Government Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan formally announced the launch of this season's BPL during the event. In his opening speech, he emphasized the transformative vision of a "new Bangladesh" and how the BPL is being reshaped to align with that goal.

“We stand in a Bangladesh that has emerged through continuous efforts and reform,” said Asif Mahmud. “The BPL has been revamped to make it more modern and appealing to fans. This year, several new initiatives have been introduced, including a theme song and a mascot. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has put in significant effort to bring this to life, and I extend my gratitude to them. This season of the BPL will set the stage for a new chapter in the journey of a transformed Bangladesh.”

BCB President Faruk Ahmed also expressed his enthusiasm for the revamped tournament during the event. “Today marks the beginning of the BPL festivities with a vibrant music fest. We have worked tirelessly to make this season exciting for fans, with new features like the theme song and graffiti unveiling. I am confident that each team will deliver their best performances and captivate audiences throughout the tournament.”

The music fest itself was a star-studded affair. Renowned Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan headlined the event, captivating the audience with his soulful renditions. Alongside him, some of Bangladesh’s most celebrated bands and solo artists delivered electrifying performances, adding to the festive atmosphere.
