In a historic first, the upcoming national budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 will be presented live from the studio of Bangladesh Television (BTV). Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed is scheduled to announce the proposed budget, amounting to Tk 7.90 trillion, at 3 PM on Monday, June 2.

The move marks the first time a budget will be declared directly from the BTV studio, introducing a new format for budget presentations under the current interim government. The announcement was made in an official press release issued on Sunday, which also confirmed that the pre-recorded budget speech would be aired at 3 PM—an hour earlier than the initially scheduled time of 4 PM.

To ensure widespread dissemination of the national budget, all private television channels and radio stations have been requested to relay the BTV feed and broadcast the speech simultaneously. Both BTV and Bangladesh Betar will carry the speech at the revised time.

According to sources within the Ministry of Finance, the day will begin with a special session of the Advisory Council, scheduled for 9:30 AM at the office of the Chief Adviser. The meeting, to be chaired by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, will deliberate on and approve the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Following the approval by the Advisory Council, President Md. Shahabuddin is expected to sign the finalized budget.

This year’s budget presentation not only introduces a new broadcasting approach but also symbolizes a shift in the communication strategy of the interim administration, aiming for broader reach and transparency in fiscal policy announcements.
