The government has reappointed Professor Dr. A.K.M. Riajul Hasan, who recently retired, as the Chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) on a contract basis. The decision was announced on Tuesday, January 28, via a notification signed by Abul Hayat Md. Rafique, an Additional Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry. Riajul Hasan resumed his office on the same day.
According to the official notification, Dr. Riajul Hasan has been appointed as NCTB Chairman from January 27, 2025, to March 25, 2025, on a contract basis. The appointment suspends his retirement benefits and leave under Section 49 of the Government Service Act of 2018. As per the terms of his contract, he is prohibited from engaging in any other profession, business, or affiliation with any organization.
This reappointment follows a recent decision by the Ministry of Education to send Riajul Hasan into retirement on January 26, just two days earlier. His sudden return to the NCTB Chairman position marks a significant reversal in the ministry's prior decision.
Professor Riajul Hasan had initially taken charge of NCTB as Chairman on August 31, 2023, under deputation. Previously, he had worked as a member of the NCTB’s Primary Curriculum Branch during the Awami League government's tenure. However, due to internal conflicts, he was transferred out of his position and later became vocal about his alleged discrimination. After the fall of the Awami League government, he claimed that he was unfairly treated and regained the NCTB Chairman position.
