On Friday, January 24, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, held a meeting with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), in Davos, Switzerland. The meeting took place during the annual conference of the World Economic Forum.

The discussions primarily focused on global trade issues, with particular attention to the role of developing countries in the international trade system. Both leaders exchanged views on how trade policies can be made more inclusive and supportive of economic growth in developing nations.

The meeting is considered a significant step in strengthening Bangladesh's relations with international organizations like the WTO, as the country continues to engage in trade reform initiatives and strives to enhance its position in the global market. Dr. Yunus, known for his pioneering work in social entrepreneurship and economic development, emphasized the importance of fair and equitable trade practices to ensure sustainable growth for all nations.

Dr. Yunus and Okonjo-Iweala also discussed the challenges posed by the ongoing global economic uncertainties, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions. They explored potential strategies to mitigate these challenges through international cooperation and trade policy reforms.

This meeting is part of a broader effort by Bangladesh's Interim Government to strengthen its global economic ties and contribute to the shaping of future international trade policies.
