Akhtar Hossain, the newly appointed member secretary of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), carried out a public campaign in his hometown of Rangpur on Thursday with over 200 battery-powered vans. The campaign commenced at the Satmatha area in Rangpur city and continued through various locations in Pirgacha and Kaunia upazilas.

Hossain arrived at the Mahiganj Glass Factory field accompanied by his supporters chanting slogans. In the evening, he attended an iftar and prayer gathering at the Karbala field in Tepamadhupur Bazar of Kaunia upazila.

This marked his first visit to Rangpur since assuming his position in the party. Addressing the public, Akhtar Hossain said that the NCP’s key organizers have begun forming committees across the country and are receiving encouraging feedback from the people. He expressed optimism that the party would soon fulfill the conditions required for official election registration.

He further emphasized the need for a national constituent assembly election, asserting that the party is gradually building the capacity to contest in such a democratic exercise.

Criticizing the existing political structure, Hossain remarked that the public no longer wants governance under a fascist, autocratic, and undemocratic constitution. He added that if political parties cooperate with an interim government, it would be possible to initiate visible reforms and judicial processes that could pave the way for fair elections.
