In a ceremony marking Bangladesh’s 54th National and Independence Day, Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif conveyed his heartfelt greetings and respect to the people of Bangladesh. The event was organized by Bangladesh's High Commissioner, Mohammad Iqbal Hossain Khan, and his wife, Rowshan Nahid, as reported by The News.
In his address as the chief guest, Minister Asif emphasized the importance of strengthening the friendly relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh. He expressed Pakistan's sincere commitment to further deepening the bilateral ties, noting the shared history and cultural bonds between the two nations. "We place great value on our relationship with Bangladesh, and we look forward to enhancing our cooperation across various sectors, including economy, politics, and culture," he said.
Asif also commended Bangladesh's significant social and economic progress and stressed the importance of increasing mutual cooperation to further the development of both countries. He reminded attendees of the historical and cultural connections that bind Pakistan and Bangladesh, which serve as a solid foundation for their close ties.
During the event, Bangladesh's High Commissioner Mohammad Iqbal Hossain Khan highlighted a significant diplomatic achievement in the recent resumption of official talks between the two countries, led by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Amina Baloch. This marked the first formal discussions in 15 years, representing an important step forward in bilateral relations. Khan also praised the beauty and hospitality of Bangladesh, reiterating the need for fostering greater cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations.
The ceremony was attended by several senior Pakistani ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from civil society, media personnel, and members of the business community. At the start of the event, the national anthems of both countries were played, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony with the Chief Guest and High Commissioner joining the guests in celebrating the occasion.
In his closing remarks, the Bangladesh High Commissioner paid tribute to the freedom fighters who participated in the 2024 mass movement and called for stronger ties to fulfill the aspirations of the people of both countries.
