The prices of essential commodities have significantly decreased over the past five months, according to data collected by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). Compared to last year’s Ramadan, most items, including rice, wheat, lentils, chicken, eggs, fish, soybean oil, palm oil, sugar, salt, potatoes, tomatoes, chili, onions, ginger, garlic, and turmeric, have seen a decline in prices.
The Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor shared that the TCB gathered data from grocery stores and poultry markets between November 2024 and March 2025. The statistics reveal that while the prices of various types of rice (such as Najirshail, Miniket, BR28, Gutti, and Paijam) and wheat products (including loose and packaged flour) remained stable compared to November 2024, wheat prices (both loose and packaged) have decreased compared to last year’s Ramadan.
This reduction in prices comes as a relief to consumers, especially during the ongoing economic challenges. The TCB continues to monitor market trends to ensure stability and affordability of essential goods for the public.
