A tragic fire at a ski resort in Bolu, Turkey, has claimed the lives of at least 66 people. Officials have reported that another 51 individuals have been injured in the blaze.
The fire broke out early Tuesday morning in the Grand Kartal Hotel, a 12-story residential building. At the time of the incident, the hotel was hosting 234 guests, as it is a peak season for tourists. Videos shared by Turkish media show people desperately trying to escape the flames by hanging bed sheets and clothes out of the windows.
Bolu's governor, Abdullahaziz Aydın, confirmed that the fire likely started in the restaurant on the fourth floor of the hotel, eventually spreading to the upper floors.
Authorities are continuing their search to determine if any more guests are trapped inside the hotel rooms. The investigation into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage is still ongoing.
