On Monday, December 30, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus directed field-level officials to ensure the normalcy of commodity prices and smooth supply chains during the upcoming Ramadan. His guidance was part of a video conference with officials from 31 districts across four divisions, aimed at coordinating efforts to maintain stability and security in the country.
The video conference involved officials from Dhaka, Chattogram, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, including 19 divisional commissioners, police commissioners, police range heads, district commissioners, and superintendents of police. During the meeting, the Chief Adviser emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order, communal harmony, agricultural product preservation, fertilizer supply, and ensuring peace in industrial areas.
Professor Yunus specifically focused on the need to monitor market prices closely as Ramadan approaches, with an emphasis on making the movement of goods easier while ensuring fair prices. He noted that the government's efforts to keep the market stable during this period would involve coordinated work across multiple sectors, including agriculture and supply chains.
Addressing the officials, the Chief Adviser mentioned the government's ongoing reform efforts, highlighted by the establishment of 15 commissions, several of which will soon submit their reports. He pointed out that after these reports are reviewed, discussions would begin with political parties and citizens, leading to the creation of an atmosphere conducive to elections.
In his closing remarks, Professor Yunus acknowledged the feedback and perspectives shared by the participants, expressing that it would assist the government in decision-making. He also recognized that the video conference was an invaluable opportunity for him to engage with local officials and better understand the ground-level issues.
As part of the government's reform agenda, the Chief Adviser stressed the importance of being aware of the responses to the reports to ensure that the process remains peaceful and constructive. He urged the officials to stay vigilant and work diligently towards accomplishing the reforms without disruption.
The event was moderated by Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, who also mentioned that the Chief Adviser would soon hold similar video conferences with officials from 33 districts in the remaining four divisions.
This initiative underscores the government's commitment to maintaining stability, addressing the economic challenges of Ramadan, and ensuring the successful implementation of long-term reforms.
