This year’s Sharadiya Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community in Bangladesh, will be celebrated in a festive and peaceful environment, assured Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali.

Speaking at a preparatory meeting held at the DMP headquarters on Thursday, the commissioner said the current law and order situation in the capital remains stable. With coordinated efforts from all stakeholders, he expressed confidence that the festival will proceed smoothly and without disruption, as in previous years.

The meeting was convened to review preparations ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja and was attended by key representatives of religious and civic organizations. At the start of the session, DMP Joint Commissioner Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan designed for this year’s celebrations.

Representatives from the Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, Dhaka Metropolitan Puja Udjapon Parishad, the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, and the Ramakrishna Mission Math were among those present. They praised the proactive security measures and extended their gratitude to DMP for ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for the festival.

The meeting also saw the participation of senior DMP officials including Additional Police Commissioners Mohammad Masud Karim, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Hasan Mohammad Shawkat Ali, and Mohammad Zillur Rahman. In addition, representatives from the armed forces, intelligence agencies, and various service organizations were also in attendance, reflecting the comprehensive approach being taken to ensure public safety.

Durga Puja, which is celebrated in temples and pandals across Dhaka and other parts of the country, draws thousands of devotees and visitors. Given the scale of gatherings, maintaining security during the festivities is a top priority for law enforcement. The commissioner emphasized that police patrols, surveillance, and intelligence coordination will be heightened throughout the city to prevent any untoward incidents.

He also highlighted the importance of public cooperation, urging community leaders and volunteers to work closely with law enforcement to uphold an environment of harmony and celebration. “Durga Puja is not only a religious festival but also a cultural occasion for the entire nation. With joint effort, we will ensure it is observed in the joyous and secure manner it deserves,” he said.

The festival is expected to bring together people of different communities, showcasing the cultural diversity and spirit of unity that defines Bangladesh. Organizers believe the inclusive arrangements and robust security measures will encourage greater participation and foster a truly festive atmosphere.

According to the DMP press release issued after the meeting, all agencies involved have pledged their cooperation in executing the plan. From crowd management to emergency response units, the authorities are set to cover all aspects necessary for the smooth observance of the festival.

As preparations move forward, both the organizers and the authorities are optimistic that this year’s Durga Puja will not only be celebrated with devotion but also stand as a symbol of peace and communal harmony in the capital city.
