Bhanga, Bangladesh – Road and rail communications in Bhanga remained normal on Tuesday, the seventh day of the ongoing blockade, with no untoward incidents reported from the area. Since morning, the presence of security forces, including the Bangladesh Army and law enforcement agencies, was noticeable across different points of the highway to ensure stability.
At around 11 a.m., a visit to various parts of Bhanga revealed that vehicles were moving without disruption, though the overall number of vehicles was relatively lower compared to regular days. Transport movement, however, faced no obstruction along the Dhaka-Khulna and other connecting routes passing through Bhanga.
Rail communications also remained fully operational. Sakib Akand, Assistant Station Master of Bhanga Railway Junction, confirmed that trains were running on schedule and there were no disruptions to passenger services. The station reported smooth operations throughout the day.
Local authorities expressed confidence that measures taken to maintain law and order were effective. Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Highway Police, Md. Rokibuzzaman, stated, “Traffic on the highway is normal and under control.” His comments were echoed by Bhanga’s Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate, Sadrul Alam, who confirmed that law enforcement personnel had been deployed adequately to prevent any unexpected situations.
In addition to police patrols, army units were stationed at key points along the highways. Their visible presence was seen as a deterrent to potential unrest and reassurance for commuters who had been concerned about safety during the blockade days. Residents and travelers noted that the atmosphere felt calm compared to the earlier days of uncertainty.
By noon, the situation continued to remain stable. Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Md. Kamrul Hasan Molla also addressed the media, saying, “Today vehicle movement on the highway is normal, and the law enforcement agencies are active on the ground.” He emphasized that the administration remained alert and committed to ensuring uninterrupted communication routes for both passengers and goods transportation.
Over the past week, transport disruptions had caused difficulties for passengers and businesses dependent on the road and railway links passing through Bhanga, an important junction connecting the southern districts with the capital. The resumption of normal traffic was seen as a relief to commuters and traders alike, particularly ahead of the upcoming festival season.
Although the movement of vehicles was lighter than usual, transport operators expressed cautious optimism. Bus drivers and passengers at local terminals reported that fear of unrest still discouraged some from traveling, but the assurance of security forces helped restore a sense of confidence. Truck operators transporting goods also confirmed that they had resumed operations, though at a slower pace.
Residents in Bhanga town observed that markets and roadside shops were open, with a gradual return of regular activity. Local business owners said that the past few days had seen reduced sales due to uncertainty about transport, but the visible normalcy on Tuesday provided hope that commercial activities would soon return to full scale.
Authorities said they would continue monitoring the situation closely in the coming days. Both the administration and law enforcement officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring that transport services across road and rail remained uninterrupted.
As Bhanga plays a key role in connecting the southern region of Bangladesh with Dhaka and other parts of the country, the restoration of normal traffic movement carries significance not just for local residents but also for broader economic and social activities.
Tuesday’s developments, marked by calm conditions and unhindered communication, signaled a temporary relief for travelers and businesses who had endured several days of anxiety. The continuation of this stability, however, is expected to depend on both security measures and the broader political environment in the days ahead.
