A man was killed, and another sustained injuries in a violent clash over a land dispute in Dhaka’s Khilkhet area on Monday, January 13. The deceased was identified as Kawsar Dewan, 45, while his nephew, Kabir Dewan, 30, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. The incident occurred around 12:45 PM in the Borura area of Khilkhet.

According to Sub-Inspector Md. Shahjahan Kabir of Khilkhet Police Station, the attack happened during a confrontation regarding the ongoing land dispute. Kawsar was fatally injured by sharp weapons, while Kabir was left wounded. Both victims were rushed to Evercare Hospital, where doctors pronounced Kawsar dead at 2:15 PM. The body was subsequently sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. Investigations into the incident are ongoing to uncover further details.

Mobarak Hossain Dewan, a cousin of the deceased, revealed that the victims were residents of Borura Uttarpara in Khilkhet and worked as security guards for a company named Swadesh Properties. The dispute reportedly revolved around filling a vacant plot with sand in the Borura area. On Sunday afternoon, individuals associated with Ashiyan City allegedly disrupted the sand-filling work by damaging sandbags.

The situation escalated on Monday when a group of 15 to 20 individuals attempted to seize the land. When Kawsar and Kabir tried to resist, they were attacked and injured in the ensuing altercation. Both were taken to the hospital immediately after the incident, but Kawsar succumbed to his injuries.

Law enforcement officials are working to identify the individuals involved in the attack and determine the underlying circumstances leading to this fatal dispute.
