The police have recovered the bodies of 10-year-old Kohali Akter and her mentally disabled father, Korban Ali (32), from the railway tracks in the Choker Bridge area of Raninagar, Naogaon, on Monday, December 2. The bodies were discovered by local authorities after being notified by the station master of the nearby Santahar Railway Station.

According to relatives, the tragic incident may have been a result of a family dispute, and they suspect the father and daughter may have jumped in front of a train in a joint suicide attempt. Korban Ali was the son of late Ismail Hossain from the South Rajapur Fisherman’s Para village.

Abdul Momin, Korban's nephew, explained that following a family argument, Korban’s wife left their home on Sunday and moved back to her father’s house. Korban reportedly became deeply distressed after this event. On the morning of December 2, Korban and his daughter Kohali left for the railway gate area, allegedly to have breakfast. Around 10:30 a.m., news arrived that their bodies had been found near Choker Bridge.

Local Union Council member Saiful Islam shared that Korban, who had a history of mental health challenges, often faced domestic disputes. Community leaders had previously intervened to mediate these conflicts. However, after the latest argument, Korban’s wife took their younger daughter and left their home to stay with her parents.

Habibur Rahman, the officer-in-charge of the Santahar GRP Police Station, stated that the police were alerted by the station master about the bodies found at the site. Initial investigation suggests that the two might have jumped under the wheels of the Barendra Express train coming from Chilahat to Rajshahi. However, authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The police have assured that, following the legal process, the bodies will be handed over to the family.
