At the Bangladesh Naval Academy’s summer Presidential Parade in Chattogram, 52 newly commissioned officers—including women and foreign cadets—pledged to uphold the nation’s sovereignty as the Army Chief urged them to serve with integrity, leadership, and sacrifice.

Bangladesh witnessed a moment of military pride and solemnity as the Bangladesh Naval Academy hosted the grand summer Presidential Parade in Chattogram, marking the commissioning of 52 new officers into the Bangladesh Navy. The ceremony, held on Sunday, celebrated the completion of training for the Midshipman Batch 2022-B and the Direct Entry Officer Batch 2025-A.

Gracing the occasion as the chief guest, the Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman addressed the newly commissioned officers with a powerful message. He called upon them to remain ever-ready to defend the sovereignty of the nation. Urging the young officers to carry the torch of integrity, duty, and sacrifice, the Army Chief emphasized that their role would be crucial in navigating the increasing challenges of national and maritime security in the 21st century.

Speaking at the parade ground, he reminded the officers that the Bangladesh Navy, now a highly capable, technology-driven, and multidimensional force, plays a critical role not only in safeguarding the country’s maritime boundaries but also in ensuring security over marine resources, deterring sea-based crimes, and maintaining order at sea. He lauded the Navy's expanding footprint, including its involvement in humanitarian efforts both at home and abroad, and its contribution under the "In Aid to Civil Power" framework during emergencies and in protecting key national installations.

A total of 44 Midshipmen and 8 Direct Entry Officers were formally commissioned into service at the parade. The newly inducted officers include 8 women and 4 foreign cadets—highlighting the Navy’s growing inclusivity and international engagement. The commissioning of these young leaders marks their formal entry into a life of discipline, national service, and professional excellence.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman inspected the parade and received the ceremonial salute. In his address, he urged the officers to stay deeply committed to patriotism and uphold their responsibilities with unwavering dedication. He added that the evolving security environment demands an agile and modern naval force capable of responding to diverse maritime threats.

The parade also featured the recognition of outstanding performers in training. Midshipman Mehedi Hasan Mridha (Executive Branch) was awarded the prestigious “Sword of Honour” for being the best all-around Midshipman. Midshipman Md. Meherab Haque Toni (Executive Branch) secured the “Chief of Naval Staff Gold Medal” for achieving the second-highest overall performance in training. Direct Entry Officer Acting Sub Lieutenant Rajib Dutta (Education Branch) received the “Bir Sreshtho Shaheed Ruhul Amin Gold Medal” for his remarkable academic performance.

In a notable moment for international cadet participation, Midshipman Abohorira Elbadawi Ahmed Abdel Naim was awarded the inaugural “BNA International Gold Medal” as the best performing foreign midshipman. His achievement highlights the Navy's commitment to fostering global military cooperation and excellence in training.

The commissioning ceremony concluded with the new officers solemnly taking an oath to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty. With hands on their hearts and eyes toward the future, they pledged to serve Bangladesh with honor and devotion.

The event drew the presence of high-ranking officials from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force, senior government personnel, local dignitaries, and the proud families of the newly commissioned officers. The parade stood as a testament to the nation’s unwavering resolve to strengthen its maritime defense capabilities and foster a new generation of leaders shaped by discipline, resilience, and service to the motherland.

As the ceremonial flags fluttered in the sea breeze and the cadets stood tall in crisp white uniforms, the Presidential Parade served not just as a commissioning event but also as a reminder of Bangladesh’s growing naval strength and its determination to safeguard the seas with honor, courage, and commitment.
