A recent survey conducted by Voice of America (VOA) has revealed that a significant portion of the respondents feel that the interim government provides greater security to religious and ethnic minorities compared to the previous Awami League government.
The survey, conducted at the end of October, showed that 64.1% of respondents believe the interim government offers better protection for minorities, while 15.3% felt the situation had worsened, and 17.9% thought the situation remained unchanged.
The study, which involved 1,000 respondents, asked participants to compare the current government’s handling of minority safety to that of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s administration. The survey sample was selected to reflect Bangladesh's demographic profile.
The respondents were evenly split between male and female participants, with 92.7% identifying as Muslim. Half of the respondents were under the age of 34, and nearly a quarter of them lived in urban areas.
This survey provides an important insight into the public perception of minority safety in Bangladesh, with the majority indicating a positive shift in the government’s approach to protecting religious and ethnic minorities.
