A robbery took place on a moving bus in Savar during the afternoon today, as armed assailants held passengers at knifepoint. The incident occurred around 12 PM near a bridge on the Dhaka-Aricha highway, close to the Bank Town area.

Local journalist Taifur Rahman, who was on the bus, described the incident. He mentioned that he boarded the bus from Bank Town with his wife and child, heading towards Shyamoli. Once the bus reached the bridge, three to four young men with knives intimidated the female passengers and stole their gold jewelry, including a locket and a necklace from his wife.

There were 20-25 passengers on the bus, but the robbers did not take any mobile phones. They targeted three female passengers and took their chains before disembarking from the bus at the bridge.

Afterward, the bus continued to Gabtali, where passengers detained the driver at a counter.

Savar Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md. Jewel Mia, stated that police are investigating the incident, and regular patrols are being conducted in the area.

This robbery follows two similar incidents earlier this year: one on March 2, involving a bus operated by the capital’s transport company, and another on April 4, involving a bus from the Itihas company.

To curb these robberies, Dhaka District Police has been conducting checkpoint operations along the highway, especially in high-risk areas, since April 5. Despite these efforts, today’s robbery still occurred in the area.
