Attorney General of Bangladesh, Md. Asaduzzaman, has alleged that a neighboring country conspired in the BDR massacre to establish dominance in Bangladesh, ensure Awami League’s hold on power, and facilitate looting. He further accused that the country shamelessly sheltered a murderer involved in the incident.
On Saturday morning, he made these remarks during a shadow parliament session at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC), addressing accountability for the BDR massacre.
The Attorney General stated, ‘The BDR massacre was not merely an act of rebellion, but rather an international conspiracy and a premeditated assassination.’ He further emphasized, ‘A commission should thoroughly investigate whether leaders of Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League participated in the massacre disguised in BDR uniforms. Sheikh Hasina and the masterminds behind this incident must be brought to justice.’
It is noteworthy that on February 25, 2009, at around 9:00 AM, a BDR assembly took place in Pilkhana. During the speech of the then BDR Director General, a group of mutineers suddenly launched an attack inside the assembly hall. The assault resulted in the deaths of 74 individuals, including 57 army officers. The extent of the brutal killings inside Pilkhana became evident over the next two days. On February 27, multiple mass graves were discovered within the compound.
