A delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, held a meeting with the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, on Wednesday. The meeting took place at the state guesthouse Jamuna in the capital and began around 12 PM.

Alongside Mirza Fakhrul, other members of the BNP delegation included standing committee members Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, and Iqbal Mahmud Tuku.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of intensifying political tensions surrounding the upcoming national election. BNP had earlier requested an audience with the Chief Adviser, seeking to discuss the prevailing uncertainty and press for a clearly defined electoral roadmap to be announced within December.

BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed stated that the party initiated the meeting to discuss several critical issues with Dr. Yunus, particularly focusing on the need for transparency and clarity in the electoral process. He emphasized that without a specific and credible roadmap, the current confusion around the elections cannot be resolved. The outcomes of this dialogue will play a key role in shaping BNP's next course of action.

The BNP has repeatedly raised concerns over the neutrality of the electoral environment and called for institutional reforms to ensure a fair and participatory election. The current political scenario remains tense, with mounting pressure from both domestic and international stakeholders for a peaceful resolution to the impasse.

In a related development, BNP is also scheduled to hold another significant meeting on Thursday at 3 PM with the National Consensus Commission. This meeting is expected to further explore avenues for political reconciliation and consensus-building in the lead-up to the elections.
