Dhaka, February 12 – During the anti-discrimination student movement last July, Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan were taken away by plainclothes personnel. They were reportedly detained in the torture cells of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), known as Ayinaghar.

On Wednesday, while inspecting Ayinaghar with Interim Government’s Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, both Nahid and Asif confirmed recognizing the DGFI torture cells where they had been held.

Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, Suchismita Tithi, shared the allegations in two separate Facebook posts on Wednesday.

In one post, Suchismita wrote, ‘Nahid Islam was held in this DGFI torture cell after being taken away in plainclothes last July.’ After inspecting Ayinaghar, Nahid recalled that the room where he was confined had a small basin-like toilet in one corner. After August 5, the partition walls between the cells were removed, and the walls were repainted.

In another post, Suchismita mentioned that Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan was also held in this DGFI torture cell after being taken away in plainclothes last July. During the visit, Asif recognized the room. He noted that the upper part of the walls had exhaust fans.

The inspection at Ayinaghar sheds new light on past allegations of unlawful detentions and mistreatment. The government’s commitment to investigating such incidents remains a key priority in ensuring justice for the victims.
