Over 71,000 People Hospitalized with Dengue in 2024 as the Outbreak Continues to Spread

In the last 24 hours, eight more lives have been claimed by dengue fever, bringing the total number of deaths in 2024 to 350. During the same period, 1,134 people were admitted to hospitals, making the total number of hospitalizations this year 71,056.

The latest figures were released on Saturday (November 9) in a report by the Directorate General of Health Services on dengue.

The report stated that among the newly hospitalized patients, 388 were from the Dhaka City Corporation, with the remaining patients from outside Dhaka. Of the eight deaths, five occurred in Dhaka, two in the Barisal Division, and one in the Chattogram Division. Additionally, 980 patients were discharged from the hospital in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 66,273 this year.

For context, in 2023, Bangladesh recorded the highest-ever number of dengue cases, with 321,179 reported infections and 1,705 deaths.
