Dhaka Police Arrest 197 in 24-Hour Citywide Crackdown

In a sweeping effort to maintain security and public order, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a 24-hour citywide operation, arresting 197 individuals and filing 55 additional cases. The operation involved 667 patrol teams and 71 checkpoints across the capital.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP’s Media and Public Relations, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the details on Wednesday. During the raids, law enforcement recovered a cache of weapons, including seven machetes, six knives, a Chinese axe, a ramda (curved blade), a dao (cleaver), two dick stoppers, three mobile phones, a Bluetooth device, five bulbs, ten iron nuts, a pair of pliers, and a sewing machine. Additionally, police seized 116 yaba pills, two grams of heroin, and 1.525 kilograms of cannabis.

In a separate operation, DMP arrested 37 more individuals in Mohammadpur, Adabar, and Kotwali areas. These arrests included professional snatchers, robbers, drug dealers, and individuals with outstanding arrest warrants.

On Tuesday night, Mohammadpur police arrested 13 suspects, Adabar police detained 13, and Kotwali police apprehended 11. According to sources, those arrested were involved in various crimes, including theft, drug trafficking, and other offenses.
