An expatriate doctor, AKM Abdur Rashid (85), was brutally stabbed to death at his residence on Road 15 in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, November 15, at a second-floor apartment in a five-story building. His wife, Sufira Rashid, sustained injuries during the attack.
According to Saidur Rahman Bandhon, a tenant in the building, the couple were long-time UK residents who visited Bangladesh every year in September and returned in December. On hearing screams around 2:30 AM, Bandhon rushed to the apartment to find Abdur Rashid lying in a pool of blood while his wife attempted to revive him. Rashid was first taken to a nearby Ibn Sina Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 AM.
Police suspect the attacker entered the home with the intent to rob. "The victim had stab wounds on his chest and face," confirmed DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge Inspector Md. Faruk. The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
The couple, both medical professionals, were residing in Dhaka temporarily. Investigations are underway to determine the motive and identify the assailant.
