During a meeting of the Consensus Commission with political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Saturday (February 15), Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus stated that future elections would be conducted with full transparency. He assured that no one would question the results or suspect manipulation.
Professor Yunus emphasized that a new Bangladesh requires a new electoral system, ensuring that the government formed through elections remains unquestioned. He highlighted that the rules and regulations would be clear to everyone, leaving no scope for manipulation. He mentioned that the laws, once established, would remain unchanged, necessitating the formation of a strong commission to uphold these principles. He further added that once the legal framework is set, it will continue uninterrupted, ensuring an entirely transparent electoral process where no one would suspect interference in the results.
He remarked that the current electoral environment fosters doubt, where even legitimate victories are met with skepticism. He stated that suspicions of external influence have become ingrained in people's minds, making it difficult to believe that elections can proceed without interference. However, he assured that the new system would eliminate such doubts and ensure that the country operates under a transparent and structured framework.
Addressing the sacrifices made by the warriors of past uprisings, Professor Yunus expressed his commitment to honoring their dreams. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that their sacrifices are not forgotten and that future generations remember and respect their contributions. He stated, "We must work together to fulfill the dreams of those who fought for change. Their sacrifices should be acknowledged and realized through our collective efforts."
The Chief Advisor also noted that without these sacrifices, many crucial questions would have remained unanswered. He acknowledged that many unresolved queries had persisted for years, and it was through the struggles and sacrifices of countless students and citizens that answers and opportunities emerged.
He further remarked that differences of opinion and debates are natural, but they do not signify division. He asserted that if the initial phase of reforms had been successfully navigated, the second phase would follow smoothly, paving the way for a promising third phase. He maintained that clarity of purpose is essential in building a new Bangladesh.
Concluding his address, Professor Yunus emphasized that collective unity is a formidable strength. He pointed out that despite efforts to disrupt the initial phase, they had successfully overcome obstacles together. He expressed confidence in maintaining this unity to ensure a fully transparent electoral system in the future.
