In a shocking incident, a government officer was injured during a violent attack by miscreants while distributing Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) rice in Birampur, Dinajpur. The attack occurred on Wednesday (March 19) at around 2:00 PM at the Deor Union Parishad office.
The injured officer, Md. Rakibul Hasan, was reportedly assaulted when he tried to stop a group of miscreants from causing chaos during the rice distribution. Akash (27), son of Harun from Deor Shiala village, allegedly attacked Rakibul with a sharp knife, leaving him with a head injury. Rakibul was rushed to the hospital, where he received three stitches for his wound.
Birampur Upazila Executive Officer Nuzhat Tasnim Aoun condemned the attack and stated that preparations are underway to file a case against the perpetrators and their accomplices. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Momtazul Haque of Birampur Police Station assured that legal action will be taken against those who attacked the government official and obstructed a public welfare program.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of government officials and the smooth operation of essential aid programs in the area. Authorities have vowed to ensure justice and prevent such disruptions in the future.
