The interim government has announced that it is seriously considering the demand to ban the Awami League following accusations of authoritarian rule and terrorist activities. In a statement released on Friday (May 9), the government confirmed that it has begun consultations with various political parties and will make a decision soon. The statement also mentioned that the government is reviewing a United Nations report detailing alleged terrorist activities by Awami League leaders and supporters. Until a decision is made, the public has been urged to remain patient.

The government noted that, in response to public demands, it has already banned the Awami League’s student wing, Chhatra League, under existing anti-terrorism laws. Additionally, the statement revealed that necessary amendments are being initiated under the International Crimes Tribunal Act to take action against organizations involved in crimes against humanity.

Regarding the controversial departure of former president and murder suspect Abdul Hamid, the government acknowledged public outrage and assured that legal action will be taken against all those involved.
