Faruk-i-Azam, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Liberation War and Relief, announced that those who were killed during the July-August uprising will be recognized as martyrs, while those who were injured will be honored as freedom fighters. Both groups will receive certificates acknowledging their status. This announcement was made after the third session of the District Commissioner (DC) conference on Monday, February 17, at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka.
Faruk-i-Azam revealed that the process of establishing the July Directorate is nearing completion, and it is expected to be set up within this week. The government has also developed a policy framework for the establishment of the directorate. Those who were martyred during the July uprising will be honored as "July Martyrs" and will receive certificates and identity cards for their families. Similarly, those who were injured during the uprising will be recognized as "July Freedom Fighters" and will be entitled to identity cards and other governmental benefits.
The Adviser further stated that under the July Directorate, families of the martyrs will be provided with a savings bond grant of 30 lakh taka. Injured individuals will receive assistance in three categories. Those who were seriously injured will be entitled to lifelong medical care and a monthly stipend of 20,000 taka, in addition to a one-time compensation of 5 lakh taka. Those who suffered less severe injuries, such as losing a limb, will receive 15,000 taka per month and a one-time compensation of 3 lakh taka. People who sustained minor injuries and have recovered will not receive financial support, but they will be given priority in government jobs and rehabilitation programs.
Additionally, the injured will be provided with various levels of training, and they will be prioritized for employment in government, semi-government, and other organizations. Their recruitment will be based on merit.
