Dhaka, November 10 - In a live video on Sunday morning, Hasnat Abdullah, convenor of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, challenged Awami League leaders to join street protests, even if only briefly. Awami League supporters had called for a gathering at Dhaka’s Zero Point to commemorate Noor Hossain Day and advocate for “the removal of anti-democratic forces and the reestablishment of democracy.” However, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement countered this call with its own gathering at the same location, fueling public concern over potential confrontations.
On Sunday morning, BNP activists had already gathered outside the Awami League's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue, but Awami League, Chhatra League, and Jubo League members were notably absent from the scene.
In his live broadcast on Facebook, Abdullah directly addressed Awami League leaders, saying, “Please, to those who follow Apa (Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina), come out on the streets for at least a minute. We want to see you, we want to talk to you. The people of this country want to see you. Where are you?”
Abdullah also criticized leaders who remain overseas, questioning their claim of public support. “You say the people are with you, so why has your leader fled abroad? Why have you all disappeared? Ignorant and shameless, you lack any self-respect,” he added.
With anti-Hasina chants echoing around the Awami League headquarters, Abdullah’s challenge emphasized the division between opposition groups and the ruling party, as calls for democratic accountability continue to grow.
