The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (Mawshi) has recently appointed revenue officers to director positions in its regional offices, marking a significant change in the management structure of the department. This move has effectively removed the regional director positions from the purview of the Secondary Education Quality and Improvement Project (SEQIP), an initiative that previously oversaw these roles.

In a recent decree issued by the Ministry of Education’s Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, six professors from the Bangladesh Civil Service (General Education) cadre have been appointed as regional directors. The appointments cover six regions, with three additional regions expected to be filled soon. This restructuring is expected to streamline operations and resolve longstanding administrative complexities.

According to the official notification, the following professors have been appointed as regional directors:

  • Dhaka Region: Professor Fakir Mohammad Nuruzzaman (Economics)

  • Barisal Region: Professor Md. Omar Faruk (Mathematics)

  • Rangpur Region: Professor Md. Amir Ali (History)

  • Chattogram Region: Professor Md. Fazlul Kader Chowdhury (Islamic History and Culture)

  • Chattogram Region: Professor Md. Asaduzzaman (Islamic History and Culture)

  • Rajshahi Region: Professor Dr. Md. Anis-ur-Reza (Bangla)

This marks a significant shift as, until now, Mawshi’s regional offices were directly managed under SEQIP, with the project overseeing the appointments and management of regional directors. By appointing professors from the revenue service to take on these director roles, the Ministry of Education hopes to alleviate various administrative challenges that had arisen under the previous system.

The new appointments are expected to bring much-needed relief to the management of regional offices. Previously, issues related to the disbursement of salaries, allowances, and the deployment of administrative officers had caused frequent delays and complications. Now, with the involvement of revenue officers, these problems are expected to be resolved, improving the overall administrative efficiency of Mawshi's regional operations.

The Ministry has also confirmed that the remaining three regions will have their director appointments finalized shortly. This change is expected to ensure that the regional offices can carry out their responsibilities more effectively, supporting the overall development and management of secondary and higher education in Bangladesh. The transition from SEQIP's control to the revenue service's management is seen as a step towards greater transparency, accountability, and administrative coherence within the education sector.

This development is part of an ongoing effort by the government to streamline its educational administration and resolve the bottlenecks that have hindered the effective implementation of policies and initiatives aimed at improving education in Bangladesh.
