In a dramatic turn of events in Khilkhet, Dhaka, a young man accused of rape was brutally beaten by an angry mob, leading to a violent confrontation with law enforcement. The incident, which occurred near Khilkhet Bazar on Tuesday night, escalated when locals attacked a police vehicle transporting the accused to the station. During the attack, the Investigation Officer (OC) of Khilkhet Police Station, Ashikur Rahman, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a local hospital. The accused, also severely injured, was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

According to Ismail Hossain, an on-duty officer at the police station, the chaos began when locals in the Madhyapara area of Khilkhet started assaulting the youth over allegations of rape. Police intervened, arresting the accused and attempting to bring him to the station. However, as they passed through Khilkhet Bazar, hundreds of enraged locals ambushed the police vehicle, vandalizing it and injuring both the officers and the accused.

To restore order, additional police forces were deployed to the scene, and army personnel were also called in to assist. The situation remains tense as authorities work to prevent further violence.

Khilkhet Police Station’s Acting Officer-in-Charge (OC), Kamal Hossain, confirmed that the accused sustained critical injuries during the mob assault. He emphasized that the accused is now under medical care and will face legal proceedings once his condition stabilizes.

The incident highlights the growing frustration among locals over perceived delays in justice, often leading to such outbreaks of mob violence. Authorities are urging calm and assuring the public that the case will be handled through proper legal channels.
