The new Cybersecurity Law will be implemented within the next seven days, confirmed Legal Adviser Professor Asif Nazrul during a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday, May 6, following a meeting of the Advisory Council.

Professor Nazrul stated that the upcoming legislation marks a significant shift from the previous cyber law, as it will exclude nine sections from the earlier act. As a result, any cases filed under those now-removed provisions will be automatically nullified.

He emphasized that the maximum punishment under the new Cybersecurity Law would be limited to two years. Additionally, if someone files a false case and it is proven in court, the law includes provisions to take legal action against the complainant.

During the same press conference, Nazrul also noted that the Advisory Council had given its final approval to the Civil Procedure Act.

Earlier in the day, the Advisory Council convened a session at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka. The meeting was chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and attended by all members of the interim government’s Advisory Council.
