Rajshahi, December 14 — Sarjis Alam, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has declared that anyone betraying the ideals of the mass uprising, including Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, will not be spared. His comments came during a program titled “Bangladesh Stands with the Families of the Martyrs” organized by the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation at the Rajshahi District Shilpakala Academy on Saturday afternoon.

In his address as the chief guest, Sarjis Alam stated, “We are not collaborators, nor are we power-hungry. If Professor Dr. Yunus betrays the beliefs and values of the July Uprising, even he will not be given any leniency.”

Sarjis Alam also raised concerns over recent developments regarding the handling of the uprising’s aftermath, particularly the transfer of police officers involved in firing on protesters. He questioned, “Why is there lobbying for new postings instead of ensuring punishment for the police personnel who opened fire during the July uprising? Why are senior political leaders and administrative officials getting involved in case manipulation for personal gains? If the remains of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s assassins did not need to be exhumed to deliver justice, why is there now talk of exhuming the bodies of the martyrs of July and August?”

Addressing Bangladesh’s relationship with India, Sarjis Alam remarked, “The nature of Bangladesh-India relations will be determined by their actions. If India truly wants a good relationship with Bangladesh, they must stop sheltering Sheikh Hasina, the murderer. Sheikh Hasina’s trial will take place on Bangladeshi soil.”

At the event, the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation extended financial assistance to families of the martyrs. A total of 46 out of 63 martyr families from the Rajshahi division received checks, each amounting to five lakh taka. The program was attended by central leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, senior administrative officials from Rajshahi, and members of the 46 martyr families who were honored with financial support.

The gathering underscored the need to uphold the principles of the July Uprising and ensure justice for the victims and their families. The speeches delivered emphasized accountability for those who suppress movements for equality and justice, while urging political and administrative institutions to act transparently. Sarjis Alam concluded by reiterating the commitment to stand by the martyr families and continue the fight against injustice.
