Hridoy Miyazi, a 23-year-old suspect named in the murder case of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of Prime Asia University in Dhaka, has been arrested from Titas upazila in Cumilla district. Acting on a tip-off, a team from Titas Police Station, assisted by members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-11, conducted a raid on Monday night in Monairkandi village of Balarampur Union and detained Hridoy from his maternal uncle’s residence.

According to law enforcement, Hridoy hails from Durlabdi village in the same upazila and is the son of Mahbub Alam. He also holds the position of joint secretary of the Banani Thana committee of the Baisamya Birodhi Chhatra Andolon (Anti-Discrimination Student Movement). Following his arrest, Titas police handed him over to RAB-11 for further legal proceedings.

The arrest was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge of Titas Police Station, Md. Shahid Ullah, who stated that the operation was carried out based on confidential information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts. Hridoy was captured without incident from his relative’s home and promptly transferred to RAB custody.

The case stems from a violent incident that took place last Saturday on the campus of Prime Asia University in Dhaka. According to reports, an altercation occurred between Parvez and several students from the English department following a verbal exchange involving two female students from the University of Scholars. What began as a dispute quickly escalated, and upon leaving the campus, Parvez was reportedly surrounded by a group of 30 to 40 individuals.

During the confrontation, Parvez was attacked with a sharp weapon, resulting in severe injuries. He was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.

The murder has sparked outrage and led to the swift filing of a criminal case by the victim’s cousin, Humayun Kabir. The case includes eight named individuals, among them two leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, along with an additional 25 to 30 unidentified assailants.

Investigators have been working to identify and apprehend all those involved. Authorities have emphasized that the incident was premeditated and carried out in a coordinated manner. The killing has drawn national attention and raised concerns over campus safety and the presence of politically affiliated student groups.

Meanwhile, student organizations and civil society groups have begun calling for a thorough and impartial investigation, demanding that all perpetrators be brought to justice regardless of their political or organizational affiliations.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement has assured the public that no one involved in the murder will be spared. With Hridoy Miyazi now in custody, further interrogations are expected to shed light on the planning and execution of the attack, as well as the identities of the remaining suspects.

Authorities have also stated that additional raids and surveillance are underway to trace the movements of those who remain at large. The incident has prompted increased security monitoring in university campuses across the capital, particularly among groups known for past involvement in political or factional violence.

The arrest of one of the key suspects marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation, and both the police and RAB have pledged to continue their joint efforts until justice is served for Zahidul Islam Parvez and his grieving family.
