Sargis Alam, the chief organizer of the National Citizen’s Party (NCP) for the northern region, has alleged that he and his associates were attacked by students of private universities in Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area. The incident reportedly occurred late Wednesday night, leaving Alam injured. Following the altercation, both parties filed complaints at Bhatara Police Station.
According to eyewitnesses and videos circulating on social media, the clash began after a verbal argument escalated into physical violence. Videos show Sargis Alam and his supporters confronting a group of students near a private university. The situation quickly turned violent, with both sides accusing each other of initiating the attack.
Sargis Alam claimed that the students, allegedly led by a Chhatra Dal leader named Ahmed Shakil, verbally abused and physically assaulted him and his associates. In a Facebook post, Alam detailed the incident, stating that he was having tea with students from NSU, IUB, AIUB, and UIU when the confrontation occurred. He alleged that Shakil and his group, including hired troublemakers, attacked his associates with sharp weapons, leaving several injured.
On the other hand, the private university students also filed a counter-complaint at the police station, accusing Alam and his supporters of instigating the violence. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam of Bhatara Police Station confirmed that both parties were present at the station and that investigations were ongoing.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with videos of the clash going viral. While Sargis Alam has called for swift legal action against the attackers, the students involved have yet to publicly comment on the allegations.
This clash highlights the growing tensions between political activists and student groups in the area. Authorities are working to resolve the matter, but the incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of individuals in public spaces.
Sargis Alam, a prominent political figure, has vowed to continue his activism despite the attack, urging his supporters to remain vigilant. Meanwhile, the police are reviewing evidence, including video footage, to determine the sequence of events and hold those responsible accountable.
The situation remains tense as both sides await further action from law enforcement. The incident underscores the need for dialogue and conflict resolution to prevent such altercations in the future.
