Students and citizens have staged a sit-in in front of Hotel Intercontinental demanding a ban on the Awami League. The protest began around 8:30 PM on Saturday, shortly after Hasanat Abdullah, chief organizer (Southern Region) of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), issued a one-hour ultimatum to the interim government to declare the party banned.
Following his declaration, protesters began moving from Shahbagh intersection toward the residence of the Chief Adviser in Jamuna. However, they halted in front of Hotel Intercontinental and sat down near police barricades.
Hasanat Abdullah warned that if the demand was not met within the given timeframe, the protesters would take control of the road stretching from Intercontinental to Banglamotor.
He further stated that even if any force tried to suppress his voice through conspiracies, they would not leave the streets until the Awami League is officially banned.
