BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the "mess" created by the previous 17-year rule of the Awami League (AL) cannot be cleared in just 17 days or even 17 months. He emphasized that this will require time.

Speaking with journalists this morning at 10:30 am from his family residence in Kalibari, Thakurgaon, Mirza Fakhrul addressed the issues facing the interim government and urged patience among the public.

He emphasized the importance of tolerance, stating, "As a nation, we cannot afford to be intolerant; we must become more tolerant. The interim government is working toward these goals, and they should be allowed the time necessary to achieve them."

Mirza Fakhrul also pointed out the divisions in society, saying, “One of the few things the previous authoritarian government did successfully was dividing the nation. We want to build a united country free from division. In a democratic nation, it’s normal to have differing opinions, but unity is essential.” He highlighted that 63 political parties—right-wing, left-wing, and centrist—came together for a joint movement to remove what he described as the "AL fascist government," which he considers a significant achievement.

Speaking further, Mirza Fakhrul noted that victory had been achieved through what he called a "decisive uprising." Now, he said, the government must ensure a free and fair election process, providing a level playing field for all voters. "There’s no need to make sweeping changes across all sectors in the name of reform—that’s the job of an elected parliament," he stated. The key reforms, he said, include appointing neutral officials in place of those previously installed by the AL, and ensuring the judiciary's independence to create conditions for a fair election.

In response to a question from journalists regarding political control over the administration, Mirza Fakhrul clarified, "There is a clear directive nationwide that we are not exerting any control or pressure over administrative officials. If any officer claims otherwise, it’s a personal misconduct on their part."

Present during this briefing were Thakurgaon District BNP Vice-President Al Mamun Alam, General Secretary Mirza Faisal Amin, Joint General Secretary Paigam Ali, Finance Secretary and City President Shariful Islam Sharif, Secretary Tariq Adnan, Sadar Thana President Abdul Hamid, General Secretary Mahbub Hossain Tuhis, along with other leaders and activists from affiliated organizations.
