In a 24-hour operation, police in Chittagong arrested 19 individuals, some of whom are linked to political groups such as the Awami League, Youth League, and the banned Chhatra League. The arrested individuals face charges related to involvement in the anti-discrimination student movement protests, as well as allegations under the Special Powers Act and anti-terrorism laws.
According to a press release sent by the Chittagong Metropolitan Police's public relations branch on Sunday (February 9), these arrests were made after police carried out raids across 16 police precincts in the city.
The arrested individuals have been identified as: Mohammad Maidul Islam (35), Mohammad Jahidul Islam, also known as Roni (19), Shahidul Alam (27), Shamsul Alam (30), Jahangir Alam (45), Priyotosh Chowdhury (62), Imamul Haque (28), Mohammad Pavel (30), Mohammad Moniruzzaman Riyad (39), Mohammad Suman (29), Mohammad Tamjid Hossain (21), Mohammad Naeem Gazi (21), Mohammad Kochir Uddin Liton (38), Ishtiyak Wasif (25), Russell Ahmad (38), Mohammad Jewel (30), Mohammad Ismail Hossain (36), Mohammad Idris (36), and Haji Mohammad Ibrahim Sharif (49).
The arrests occurred between 2 PM on Saturday (February 8) and 2 PM on Sunday (February 9), as stated in the police release.
