Information and Broadcasting Advisor Nahid Islam stated that while Bangladesh achieved independence in 1971, the country remained vulnerable until the victory of 2024. He made this declaration while addressing journalists on Monday at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar on the occasion of Victory Day.
Speaking to reporters, Nahid Islam said, "The victory of 2024 has completed our independence. It is a triumph that has liberated Bangladesh from the clutches of authoritarian rule and allowed the people to achieve genuine victory.”
Extending heartfelt greetings to the nation on this historic day, the advisor remarked that the victory signifies the nation’s liberation from what he described as “Awami fascism.” He emphasized that this victory paves the way for a Bangladesh where the people can live freely and govern their own destiny without fear or suppression.
Paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War and those who sacrificed their lives during the July movement, Nahid Islam reiterated his commitment to building a Bangladesh free of authoritarianism and imperialist influences. “We remember the sacrifices made for this nation, both in 1971 and in the recent struggles, and we owe it to those martyrs to create a free and fair country.”
He further added, “This day stands as proof of our firm determination to build a better future for all. It marks the beginning of a new era, one defined by justice, equality, and progress.”
The advisor called on all citizens to uphold the spirit of independence and work together toward achieving a prosperous and equitable Bangladesh. He stressed the importance of unity and collective effort in realizing the dreams of the nation’s founding leaders and the aspirations of its people.
Nahid Islam concluded by urging everyone to remain steadfast in their efforts to maintain the ideals of the country’s independence while striving for a just and democratic society. He underscored that the fulfillment of these aspirations is now within reach and that the people must work in solidarity to secure a brighter future for Bangladesh.
The ceremony at the National Martyrs’ Memorial, where he delivered his remarks, served as a symbolic acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by countless individuals who fought for Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. As the nation celebrates Victory Day, the focus remains on charting a course toward a future rooted in freedom, justice, and national unity.
