The International Crimes Tribunal has filed charges against 41 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her military adviser, Tariq Ahmed Siddique, in connection with the murder of Dr. Foyez Ahmed, the Nayeb-e-Ameer of Lakshmipur District Jamaat. The charges were filed by Dr. Foyez Ahmed’s son, Dr. Hasanul Banna, today, Thursday, in the Chief Prosecutor's office.

The charges allege that the accused individuals are involved in crimes against humanity, and include notable figures such as the former Home Minister, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, former Rab-11 CEO Tariq Said Mohammad, and former ADG of Rab, Major General Ziaul Ahsan, among others. The charges are linked to the brutal killing of Dr. Foyez Ahmed on December 13, 2013, when he was attacked, shot, and thrown from the roof of his house.

According to the details provided in the complaint, on the night of December 13, 2013, around 12:30 a.m., Dr. Foyez Ahmed, who was known for his humanitarian work, was taken from his second-floor room to the roof of his house by a group of armed individuals. They broke through the gate of his residence with a vehicle bearing the insignia of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). The accused individuals then conducted a search and ransacked the house.

On the roof, Dr. Foyez Ahmed was severely beaten with firearms and other weapons, including blows to his head, face, and body. The assailants then shot him in the right knee, inflicting a severe injury that caused significant blood loss. To ensure his death, they threw him from the third-floor rooftop, headfirst, into the yard below. His body was later left at Lakshmipur District Hospital.

The charges further explain that the attack was carried out under the directives of senior political and administrative authorities at the time, who sought to suppress opposition leaders and activists, especially during the 2014 general elections. The murder of Dr. Foyez, a prominent member of the opposition Jamaat-e-Islami party, was part of a broader campaign of violence against dissenting voices during the political turmoil surrounding the 2014 elections.

This act of violence drew widespread condemnation across the country, and the family of Dr. Foyez Ahmed hopes that through these charges, justice will be served and the truth about his murder will be revealed. The case also underscores the broader issues of human rights abuses and political repression that took place during this period.

As the tribunal begins its investigation, the family of Dr. Foyez Ahmed calls for a fair trial and hopes for justice in what they describe as a targeted political murder. The charges against the accused reflect the ongoing efforts to hold individuals accountable for their involvement in crimes against humanity and political violence.
