Foreign Affairs Adviser, M. Touhid Hossain, announced that on January 5, 90 Bangladeshi fishermen detained in India and 95 Indian fishermen held in Bangladesh will be released. The fishermen will be handed over in the international waters of the Bay of Bengal. Hossain shared this information with reporters after an event on Thursday, January 2.

The event marked the opening of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) Lounge at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was attended by Foreign Secretary M. Jashim Uddin as well.

Hossain explained that the 90 Bangladeshi fishermen had been detained by Indian authorities after two fishing trawlers, MV Meghna and MV Laila, entered Indian waters on December 9. Additionally, 12 other Bangladeshi fishermen were detained following the sinking of an Indian trawler in Bangladesh's waters. On the other hand, six Indian trawlers had entered Bangladesh's territorial waters in September and October, leading to the detention of 95 Indian fishermen in Patuakhali and Bagerhat districts.

Hossain also took the opportunity to express gratitude for the cooperation of diplomatic journalists, saying that past efforts had always been supported, and he hoped for continued positive relations in the future.

The event concluded with remarks from the outgoing President of DCAB, Nurul Islam Hasib.
