On January 5, a successful repatriation process was completed as 90 Bangladeshi fishermen and crew members who had been detained in India were handed over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard. This exchange took place in the western international waters and was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Ministry, the Bangladesh Coast Guard took custody of the 90 Bangladeshi fishermen and crew members from the Indian Coast Guard. In return, 95 Indian fishermen and crew members were transferred to the Indian Coast Guard.
In addition to the human repatriation, the handover also involved the exchange of the detained fishing vessels. Bangladesh's "FV Layla-2" and "FV Meghna-5" fishing vessels were returned, while six Indian fishing boats were handed back to India.
After the formalities were completed, the repatriated Bangladeshi fishermen, along with their fishing vessels, began their journey toward Chittagong under the supervision of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. They are expected to arrive in Chittagong on Monday, January 6, where their families will be waiting to receive them, completing the repatriation process.
