The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh has initiated an investigation into allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income against journalist Munni Saha and her husband Kabir Hossain Taposh. Kabir, the proprietor of MS Promotional, is alleged to have engaged in suspicious transactions amounting to BDT 1.34 billion in their bank accounts, with a current balance of BDT 140 million.

This announcement was made by ACC Director General (Prevention) Md. Akhter Hossain during a press briefing on Thursday. He stated that the commission is set to probe the couple's financial dealings, which reportedly include a significant amount of unexplained wealth.

Simultaneously, the ACC is also examining allegations of misappropriation of public funds related to the construction and installation of sculptures and murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman across the country. These projects, allegedly unnecessary and exorbitantly costly, are suspected of leading to massive financial irregularities.

Additionally, the ACC has taken up an investigation into the Mujib Killa construction, renovation, and development projects. Reports suggest extensive corruption involving project directors, contractors, and other stakeholders. Accusations include misappropriation of funds worth billions, inflated bills, malfunctioning deep tube wells, and other irregularities associated with these initiatives.

These investigations mark the ACC’s renewed focus on addressing allegations of corruption in high-profile cases, encompassing both private individuals and public sector projects. The commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in matters involving public resources and national interest.
