The date for the 13th National Parliament Election of 2026 is likely to fall in the middle of the year, as recently suggested by one of the advisors during a speech in London. However, the Chief Advisor's Deputy Press Secretary, Apurba Jahangir, clarified that this is a personal opinion of the advisor, not an official statement.

Jahangir stated that the Chief Advisor will announce the election date, and so far, no date has been provided from the Chief Advisor’s office. The date of the election will only be officially declared by the Chief Advisor.

During a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Sunday (November 24), Jahangir responded to questions from journalists, emphasizing that any statements made by others regarding the election date are their individual opinions.

In response to another question, Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, another Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, affirmed that the government had formed the Election Commission in full compliance with the law.

Regarding questions about the enforced disappearance commission, Azad Majumder noted that the commission had not yet formally submitted any reports to the government. He mentioned that recently, the Chief Advisor and several other advisors had met with the commission members, during which they promised to deliver an interim report by mid-December.

Addressing the issue of battery-operated rickshaws, Azad Majumder clarified that the government intends to challenge the High Court's decision to ban their operation, and the Supreme Court is expected to deliver a favorable ruling on the matter.

Regarding the harassment of journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, including the New Age editor Nurul Kabir, the spokesperson confirmed that the government had already issued a clarification and taken swift action on the matter. He assured that any future incidents would be dealt with promptly.

Shafiqul Alam, the Chief Advisor's Press Secretary, also mentioned that a policy is being considered to regulate such matters. This would include provisions to ensure transparency and allow citizens to be informed about the process. The policy will not specifically target individuals holding differing views or journalists but aims to clarify the government's stance on issues like travel restrictions or court orders.
