A student-led protest group, "Anti-Fascist Students," staged a coffin march at Dhaka University on Wednesday, demanding the ban of Awami League, Jatiya Party, and other "fascist forces" from participating in political activities.

The protest began at 12 PM near the TSC’s Pigeon Square, where effigies symbolizing the coffins of Sheikh Hasina and Rashed Khan Menon were carried. Chanting slogans such as “Awami League has no place in Bangladesh” and “Jatiya Party has no place in Bangladesh,” the demonstrators marched through the university campus.

Bin Yamin Molla, the chief organizer of the movement, called upon the interim government to take steps to prevent these political parties from contesting the next elections. Addressing the crowd, he said, “The lives lost to fascist attacks during July and August can never be brought back. Why should fascism be allowed to return? Major political parties are extending their hands to these forces, dreaming of elections with their participation. Such dreams will never come true in Bangladesh.”

Molla criticized interim government head Yunus for reportedly stating that the BNP supports Awami League’s participation in elections as a major political party. “Who gave you the mandate to decide this? The mandate of those injured and martyred is that Awami League must not be allowed to contest elections. Even their allies must not participate as independent candidates,” he declared.

Calling for clarity from the interim advisors, he said, “The injured are still suffering in hospitals, yet we hear that Awami League will return to the elections. To uphold the spirit of our movement and for the nation’s progress, we demand the banning of Awami League and Jatiya Party from all political processes.”

Another organizer, Ziaur Rahman Zia, stated, “Despite 100 days since the ousting of fascists, they continue to linger and engage in activities, even joining the advisory council. The student community is uniting once more to bury fascism for good.”

The protest concluded with demands for the interim government to issue a clear statement regarding the disqualification of these political forces in the upcoming national elections.
