On January 23, 2025, General Waker-Uz-Zaman was officially appointed as the 17th Colonel of the East Bengal Regiment during a ceremony at the Shaheed M.R. Chowdhury Parade Ground in Chittagong. This significant event was announced by the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) department.The ceremony marked General Waker-Uz-Zaman's acceptance of the ceremonial role, adhering to military traditions associated with the prestigious East Bengal Regiment. Upon his arrival at the parade ground, he was formally saluted in accordance with military customs, and a guard of honor was presented by a contingent of the East Bengal Regiment. Subsequently, the senior-most captain and master warrant officer of the regiment adorned him with the Colonel rank badge.During the event, General Waker-Uz-Zaman addressed those present, offering guidance and insights. Following his speech, he inspected the Quarter Guard of the East Bengal Regimental Center and participated in a tree-planting initiative at the Smriti Kanan premises. The Army Chief also delivered a welcome speech at the 37th Annual Commanders' Conference of the East Bengal Regiment, discussing its development, enhancement of professional skills, and operations conducted both domestically and internationally. He acknowledged the regiment's illustrious history and its contributions to serving the nation.Furthermore, he urged all members of the regiment to remain prepared to face the challenges of the 21st century through modern and relevant training.The ceremony was attended by senior officials from Army Headquarters, Army Training and Doctrine Command, local formations, and various ranks from the East Bengal Regiment, along with members of the media.
