Bangladesh has proposed Kunming, China as an alternative destination for medical treatment for its citizens, due to ongoing visa issues with India. The government has initiated discussions with China to simplify the visa process for Bangladeshis seeking medical care.
This information was shared by Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain during a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, January 26, following his recent visit to China.
Touhid Hossain explained that Kunming could serve as a viable alternative to India for medical treatment, as the treatment and travel costs there are relatively lower. He mentioned that the Chinese government has been urged to reduce visa fees to facilitate easier access for Bangladeshi patients. With India currently restricting visas, Kunming could provide a practical solution for those in need of medical care abroad.
Additionally, the advisor revealed that China has agreed to build a large hospital in Bangladesh, with discussions ongoing regarding the location. Bangladesh has suggested a site in Purbachal, which is considered a suitable area for the new hospital.
The talks with China also touched upon the terms of loans, particularly focusing on reducing interest rates and extending repayment periods. Hossain noted that the Chinese government showed a positive attitude toward these issues and assured that they would review the matter further.
