Bangladesh has received $1.68 billion in remittances during the first 25 days of January 2025, according to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank (BB). This amount reflects an average of $67 million in remittances sent by expatriates every day.
If the current pace continues, remittances for the entire month of January are projected to reach $2 billion. In its assessment, the central bank reported that the remittances have been received through various banking channels. Of the total, $354.2 million came through state-owned banks, $74.4 million through a specialized bank, $1.24 billion through private banks, and $479 million through foreign banks.
However, eight banks did not receive any remittances during this period. These banks include Bangladesh Development Bank (BDBL), Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Community Bank, ICB Islamic Bank, Padma Bank, Pakistani Habib Bank, and State Bank of India.
In total, Bangladesh has received $13.74 billion in remittances for the first six months of the 2024-25 fiscal year, up from $10.8 billion in the same period last year. This marks an increase of $2.98 billion in remittances compared to the previous year.
