Over 7,860 Crore Taka in Remittances Inflow, with Daily Average Exceeding 873 Crore Taka
In the first nine days of November 2024, Bangladesh received $650.5 million in remittances. This amounts to approximately 7,860 crore Taka, assuming an exchange rate of 120 Taka per dollar. The average daily remittance inflow during this period was over 873 crore Taka.
According to the latest data from the central bank, state-owned banks received nearly $20 million in remittances during this period. Among specialized banks, the Agrani Bank alone received $3.15 million. Private banks received a total of approximately $42.2 million, while foreign banks brought in $1.75 million.
However, 11 banks did not receive any remittances during this period. These include state-owned Bangladesh Development Bank (BDBL), specialized Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), and private banks such as Community Bank, Citizens Bank, ICB Islamic Bank, Padma Bank, and Simaant Bank. Foreign banks that did not receive any remittances include Al-Falah Bank, Habib Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, and State Bank of India.
For comparison, in October 2024, the total remittance inflow was around $240 million, which was similar to the inflows in September 2024. In July 2024, the first month of the fiscal year 2024-2025, remittances amounted to $190 million. In June 2024, remittances were recorded at $254.16 million, while May 2024 saw $225.38 million in remittances.
The highest single-month remittance inflow in Bangladesh's history was recorded in July 2020, when the country received $260 million. The highest annual remittance total was during the 2020-2021 fiscal year, when total remittances reached $24.78 billion.
