The second edition of the Bangladesh Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (BDAIO) 2025 will be held with the objective of inspiring young students in Bangladesh to develop an interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and technology. The event will be jointly organized by the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BDSN) and the Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUET).
In a press release issued on Tuesday (May 13), the organizers provided details about the competition, which aims to bring together students from schools, colleges, technical education boards, and British curriculum-based institutions from across Bangladesh. The preliminary selection rounds for the Olympiad were held on May 3 and 10, from which 171 students have been selected for the national round.
The national level round of the competition will take place on Saturday (May 17) at the BUET campus. Following the opening ceremony, a 5-hour long machine learning and programming contest will be held in designated classrooms. The winners of this round will get the opportunity to represent Bangladesh at the international AI Olympiad in Beijing, China. In addition, winners will be awarded certificates, attractive prizes, and will also receive opportunities for both online and offline training sessions.
One of the notable additions to this year's competition is the inclusion of a multiple-choice quiz and fill-in-the-blank rounds focused on artificial intelligence and Python programming. The quiz competition will last for 30 minutes and will be followed by a panel discussion and workshop for students. A total of 235 students have been selected for the junior and senior categories of this competition. Attractive prizes will also be awarded to the winners of these rounds.
A press conference was held to announce the event, with several notable figures in attendance. Among those present were BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Shawkat Ali, Director of IQAC and BRICS Professor Shanti Narayan Ghosh, Team Leader of BDAIO and Director of the Institute of Information Technology at Dhaka University Professor Dr. BM Moinul Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences Dr. Munshi Mahbubur Rahman, Chairman of the BUET CSE Department Assistant Professor Md. Saifur Rahman, Head of Product and Growth at the main sponsor Rev Chat Mamunur Rauf, CEO Mr. Rezaul Hasan, along with teachers and officials from BUET and BDSN.
In his speech, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shawkat Ali emphasized that the Bangladesh Artificial Intelligence Olympiad is not just a competition, but a vital platform for young people to develop the skills they need to thrive in a technology-driven future. The BUET Computer Science and Engineering department is providing full sponsorship and support for the event.
